Our Client is United We Can – a charitable organization established in 1995 to support environmental, social, and economic improvement in the inner city of Vancouver. The mandate is to create economic opportunities for people with multiple barriers living in the Downtown Eastside, through environmental initiatives.

One of UWC’s key missions is to improve working conditions for Binners by ensuring they receive the full deposit on all their bottles and cans and have access to a working environment into which they are welcomed.
Managed by a Board of Directors that are caring, successful entrepreneurs, the business has expanded to include commercial accounts within Vancouver as well.

In this rewarding role you will be responsible for the smooth, cost effective and well running operation of the depot location, as well as establishing and executing major goals and objectives for the organization while providing impeccable leadership, direction and guidance to the team and all the operation’s staff.

Reporting to the Volunteer Board of Directors, you must be comfortable being the main spokesperson for the organization, communicating to regulatory bodies, community and civic organizations, donors, funders, and the general public as well as to the staff. You are a developer of business growth.

This role involves the administration of the charity’s daily operations and the location, including staff, financial management responsibilities and ensuring compliance with all governmental legislation and regulations. It also involves spearheading sponsorship, donation and grant opportunities.

Here’s what we need from you: 
Excellent communication skills both oral and written – you enjoy meeting and working with people and developing business relationships and you consider yourself well connected in the community.

5+ years Business operations experience leading teams using MBWA management style.

You have previously managed volunteer groups

Ideally possess a bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Business and/or Marketing, or have relevant work experience

You are a positive, caring soul ideally with some experience in working with Social Enterprise and/ or a Volunteer Board governed organization
